Wayne Cooper

Wayne Cooper, age 80, Spivey Community, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 6, 2020. He was a native of Poplar, North Carolina and a son of the late John Cooper and Edna Hughes Cooper. Wayne made his home on Spivey Mountain with his family since 1967. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law and friend. Wayne was a member of Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for numerous years. He loved going to church and loved his church family. Wayne enjoyed working around the house, gardening and cutting wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: C.J. and Ted Cooper; one sister, Pansy Delffs. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-three years, Kathleen Hensley Cooper; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Kelly Cooper; special granddaughter, JoAnna; three sisters: Verlon Burgess, Janie Burgess and Glenda Moore (Steve); brothers and sisters-in-law: R.L. and Glasie Peterson, Arnold and Marsha Hensley, George and Sharrol Hensley, Carolyn Hensley, Stanley Tipton, Connie Cooper and Kay Cooper; special nephew, David Delffs (Becky), who rarely missed a day without checking on his Uncle Wayne; special niece, Joy (Ken) Lovelace; several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Debbie Bradford, Susan Hensley and everyone who helped and prayed for Wayne and the family during his time of sickness. The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the family home, 202 Joe Hensley Road, Spivey Community. Pastor Tommy Hensley and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the home by 1:45 P.M. Thursday. Interment will follow in the Joe Hensley Family Cemetery.
