Wayne Briggs, age 74, of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023, at his residence. He is a son of the late Talmadge “Buck” Briggs and Nellie Rice Briggs. Wayne lived most of his life in Unicoi County.
He worked as an electrician for several years. Also, Wayne was a Baptist preacher for several years. His favorite job was farming and selling his produce at the Farmer’s Market. Wayne was very friendly, and he always enjoyed talking to people he met over the years. He liked to play poker and loved telling stories to his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one son, Justin Briggs; granddaughter, Lacey Burton; three brothers: Gerald Briggs, Earl Briggs, and Ronal Briggs; sister, Linda Silvers.
Wayne leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, three children: Sherry Niederbrach of Johnson City, Dustin Briggs and Shane Briggs, both of Erwin; two brothers: Robert Briggs (Mary Sue) and Roger Briggs, all of Flag Pond; ten grandchildren: Josey Briggs, Jesse Briggs, Dalston Briggs, Sabra Ellis, Shalein Ellis, Shelby Niederbrach, Logan Niederbrach, Autumn Briggs, Ebony Briggs and Bryson Briggs; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The Briggs family will receive friends on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Upper Rice Creek Cemetery. Wayne’s graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Lincoln Shelton officiating his service.
