Virnie Mae Silvers Briggs, age 101, of Flag Pond, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 20, 2025. She is the daughter of the late Anderson and Minnie Silvers. Virnie was a lifelong resident of Flag Pond.
She was a member of Upper Rice Creek Baptist Church. Virnie was a dedicated Christian woman who was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a light who shined with Jesus’ love and shared his message of salvation while she was at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.
Virnie was a homemaker and excellent cook. Her meatloaf and fried cabbage were absolutely the best! She enjoyed planting and growing beautiful flowers. Virnie liked to crochet, and she would make baby booties and hair ties for the nursing home staff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stanley “Tom” Briggs on December 02, 1998; one son, David Briggs; two stepsons: Clayton Briggs and Elton Briggs; one brother, JB Silvers; two sisters: Velva Sparks and Ina Tipton.
Virnie’s survivors include her children: Reta Cloyd (Brethren Terry “Jack” Cloyd), and Jean Steples; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in the Upper Rice Creek Cemetery. Brethren Jack Cloyd will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday.
