Velva (Peterson) Landers

Velva Peterson Landers, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Sunday, June 28, 2026. She was born and raised in Poplar, North Carolina. Velva is a daughter of the late Jerry and Idella Miller Peterson. She moved to Erwin in 1992 after her retirement.

Velva retired from Sweetheart Cup Corporation in 1992 with over thirty years of service. She was a hard worker whom her co-workers always enjoyed working with.

Velva was an active member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. She was a faithful, godly woman and she loved her church family.

Velva enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Velva was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Landers; five brothers: Garfa, Harvey, Jack, F.C., and Everette Peterson; two sisters: Eleanor Poole, and Emaline Miller.

Velva leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, her two sisters: Gertrude Street of Johnson City and Jean Reedy (Jerry) of Salem, Virginia; sisters-in-law: Ernestine Peterson, Betty Peterson, Barbara “Bobbie Sue” Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 01, 2026, at the funeral home. Reverend David Williams will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Center on Aging and Health for the excellent care given to Velva.
