Trula Bell (Shorter) Casey

Trula Bell Shorter Casey, age 86, of Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28. 2026, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Cecil Shorter and Doris Lockner Shorter.

Trula was a former employee of Jones and Church Farms where she graded tomatoes for many years. She attended Unaka Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

Trula loved growing flowers and working in her flower garden, she was especially proud of her Angel Trumpet flowers. She liked roosters, Dolly Parton, and shopping at Hamrick’s. Trula enjoyed traveling to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

She had a generous heart and took great pleasure in giving to others. Trula loved her family dearly and she took great care of all of them.

In addition to her parents, Trula was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Casey, In 1997; three children: Charles Leroy Casey, Rita Faye Casey, and Pamela Crawford; two grandsons: Ryan Casey, and Craig Smith; great grandson, Ethan Doughten; two sisters: Thelma Smith and Myrtle Smith; daughter-in-law, Kim Casey.

Trula leaves behind to cherish her memory, five children: Dewayne Casey of Unicoi, William Casey (Bell) of Unicoi, Nina Hensley (Teddy) of Flag Pond, Clarice McNabb of Chattanooga, and Viola Williams (Frank) of Telford; sister, Mary Smith of Erwin; twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Casey family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 01, 2026, at the funeral home. Pastor Roger Redmond and Pastor Larry Robinson will officiate the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Angel Shelton, Brian Brown, Cassie Brown, Ben Brown, and Guy Lee Brown. Interment will follow in the Bumpus Cove Cemetery. Pastor Larry Robinson will officiate, and music will be provided by Lincoln Hensley. Active pallbearers will be Dustin Casey, Josh Casey, Spencer Crawford, Bentley Casey, Weston Greene, Jason Scarbrough, Eric Smith, and Danny Casey. Alvin Casey, Jr. will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
