Thomas Darrell “Tommy” Ramey, age 74, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital six days after his beloved wife and love of his life Gracie Marie McKinney Ramey, age 81, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Tommy is a son of the late Kenny and Edith Ramey. Gracie is a daughter of the late Lit and Fairy McKinney. Tommy and Gracie were married for fifty-six years. They are members of The Church of Jesus Christ.
Tommy loved playing his guitar and singing in Church with Gracie. He loved animals and had a pet squirrel that he taught to play hide and seek. Tommy retired from QEP after twenty-five years.
Gracie was a homemaker. She loved gardening and spending time with her family, reading her bible and going to Church. Her favorite verse in the Bible was KJV Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”
In addition to their parents, Tommy and Gracie were preceded in death by Tommy’s infant sister, Anita Faye: Gracie’s brothers and sisters, Ray McKinney, Fred McKinney, Barbara McKinney, Paralee Privette, Blanche McKinney: Gracie’s brother-in-law, Don Privette and sister-in-law, Viola McKinney: Tommy’s great nephew, Gracie’s nephew. Both Tommy and Gracie had several aunts and uncles preceding them in death.
Tommy and Gracie are survived by three daughters: Teresa and husband JD Edwards, Lisa and husband Mark Hensley, Donna and husband Troy Bailey; three grandchildren: Adam Edwards, Alex and wife Elizabeth Hensley, Nicole Bailey; two great grandchildren: Julian Hensley and Adalyn Hensley; special niece, Rachael and husband Dale Jersey and son Matthew; Tommy’s brother, Wayne and wife Debbie Ramey; Gracie’s three brothers: Richard McKinney, Robert and wife Betty McKinney, Ralph and wife Ellean McKinney and one sister-in-law, Sue McKinney. Tommy and Gracie are also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family of Tommy and Gracie will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, September 30, 2021 in the Unicoi Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM. Pastor Ronald “Bo” Westmoreland will officiate. Pallbearers will be Alex Hensley, JD Edwards, Adam Edwards, Matthew Jersey, Troy Bailey, Zachary McKinney, and Timmy McKinney. Committal service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 PM Friday.
