Thelma Ray Tinker, age 90, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Center on Aging and Health. She is a daughter of the late Thomas Emory Ray and Katherine Sparks Ray. Thelma lived most of her life in Unicoi County, however, she lived in Michigan for twenty-five years until her husband’s retirement.
She was formerly employed by TG&Y and Erwin Health Care. Thelma was a member of Unicoi Baptist Church.
She had a loving, caring, sweet and generous heart. Thelma enjoyed helping others, tending to her flowers and garden, reading books and taking trips to Pigeon Forge. Thelma adored her grandchildren and cherished spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tinker, Sr.; son, Jack Tinker, Jr.; brother, Paul Ray and her sister, Pearl Clayton.
Thelma leaves behind to cherish her memory, her two children: Roger Tinker (Donna) of Johnson City and Loraine Sparks of Unicoi; four grandchildren: special granddaughter, Valarie Black (Zane), Amanda Bailey, Raven Tinker, and Jack Brian Tinker; eight great grandchildren; sister, Lillie Buchanan; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Tinker family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 03, 2025, at Unicoi Funeral Home. Pastor David Crutchfield will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
