Shirley Jean (Chandley) Tittle

Shirley Jean Chandley Tittle, age 87, of Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Thursday, May 23, 2024, while she was surrounded by her family. She was born in Shelton Laurel, North Carolina to the late Dewey and Emma Sands Chandley.

Shirley retired from Industrial Garment after several years of service. She was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church.

When Shirley’s daughters were in school, she was very active with the PTA and all their school activities. Shirley was instrumental in starting a women’s softball league in Erwin. She was President of the Women’s Softball League. Shirley was the scorekeeper for the NFS men’s softball team.

She loved to travel with her family. Shirley and her late husband were members of the Erwin Car Club. They enjoyed cruising in their classic cars to all the different car shows. She liked riding motorcycles and going bass fishing.

Shirley was a big supporter of the Erwin Rescue Squad which her late husband was a member of. She would cook delicious meals for all the rescue squad members to enjoy. In later years, Shirley enjoyed quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Charles Curtis Tittle on December 19, 2016; five brothers: Harold, Robert, Fred, Marvin, and David Claude Chandley; two sisters: Florence Shelton Cutshall and Marie Ray.

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters: Karen Tittle Couch (Jeff) and Rita Tittle, all of Erwin; two granddaughters: Sydnee Tittle-Hale (Dylan Owen) of London, England, and Emma Grace Kelly of Erwin; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The Tittle family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate the 6:00 p.m. funeral service. Eulogy will be delivered by Emma Grace Kelly.  Shirley’s committal will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Chandley Cemetery, Shelton Laurel, North Carolina. Pallbearers will be Jeff Couch, Dylan Owen, Ricky Ray, David Ray, Mallory Whittaker, and Ethan Kisler. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
