Shirley Ann Thayer Britt, age 87, of Unicoi, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Center on Aging and Health. She was born in Portland, Maine to the late Carl Thayer and Avis Thompson Thayer Wilson. Shirley moved to Unicoi County with her husband, Harry, in 1958.
She retired from Industrial Garment. Shirley was an active member of Unicoi Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and enjoyed spending time with her ladies at church.
Shirley was very kindhearted and generous. She loved her family dearly and always threw birthday parties for each of her children no matter what age they were turning. Shirley enjoyed camping, NASCAR with Ricky Craven being her favorite driver and the UT Vols. She loved her cat, Tracy.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Ann Britt and one sister, June.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, her husband of sixty-eight years, Harry Eugene Britt; three children: Donald Britt (Louise) of Unicoi, Donna Martin (Sid) of Elizabethton, and Phillip Britt (Rhonda) of Unicoi; five grandchildren: Jennifer Hodges (Steven), Eric Horton, Aaron Akers (Brittany), Donald H. Britt, and Theresa Lee; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Britt family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Pastor Garry Edwards will officiate the 12:30 p.m. funeral service. Committal will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Site) at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Debbie Britt will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
