Sarah "Nana" R. (Brown) Gentile

Sarah “Nana” R. Gentile, age 81, Erwin, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at her home. She was born on May 16, 1941, to the late Emanuel and Ruth Neidlinger Brown in Fulton Township, Pennsylvania. Nana lived in West Chester, PA before moving to Erwin in 1978.

Nana was a teacher for Head Start # 2 and retired from JD’s Market where she worked as a cook. She was of the Baptist Faith. Nana loved playing games on her Kindle and enjoyed putting puzzles together.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, James Gentile in 1977; one daughter, Vickie Silvers in 2002; one brother, Charles T. Brown; five sisters: Betty Grubbs, Grace Brown, and Mildred Jeanne Ness, Virginia Clasky, Helen Bishop.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children: Melody Williams, Mars “Allen” Lockwood, and Clarence “Chip” Lockwood; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hoover and one sister-in-law, Linda Brown, both of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Nana’s family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Mausoleum. Dr. Alan King will officiate. Entombment will follow the service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
