Roxie J. Whittemore Hyder, age 97, Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Thursday, March 24, 2022. She was born in Hampton on March 12, 1925 and was the only daughter of the late Will and Rena Cochran Whittemore. Roxie moved to Erwin in 1955.
She was a homemaker and Roxie loved serving the Lord and going to church. Roxie attended Mt. O’Dell Freewill Baptist Church in Bumpus Cove where she had a host of friends. She wanted to warn the lost people to seek the Lord while he may be found. Roxie encouraged the saved to hold fast to their faith and obey the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years, Roy Hyder; two brothers: Roy and Otis Whittemore; two nephews: Wayne and Kyle Whittemore.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, six nephews: Garry Whittemore, Erwin, Glen Whittemore, Jonesborough, Brian Whittemore, Hampton, Otis Whittemore, Jr., Onsted, MI, Kenneth Whittemore, Adrian, MI and Carroll Whittemore, Glens Falls, NY; one niece, Pamela Fleenor, Blissfield, MI; a very special cousin, Barbara Jean Miller; a host of great nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the hour of service on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Roxie’s great nephew, Pastor Shane Whittemore will officiate the 1:00 p.m. celebration of life service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
