Roger Preston Young, age 72, Erwin, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Hillview Health Center. He is a son of the late Herbert Brown Young and Lorraine Lacey. Roger was born in Oliver Springs, TN in 1948 and raised in Oak Ridge.
Roger was a veteran of the US Marines, serving in Vietnam receiving numerous awards to include the Purple Heart. After serving in the military, he was a truck driver for many years. He spent his spare time riding motorcycles and tinkering with old cars. Roger enjoyed being around his friends and never met a stranger. He was of the Lutheran Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Rice.
Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory, his brother, Ronald Young and wife, Brenda of Greenville, SC; two daughters: Shannon Butler and husband, Carl from Reedsville, WV and Rhonda McDonald and husband, Larry of San Andreas, CA; four grandchildren: Ivy McDonald, Joshua Butler, Tracey Rodeheaver and Courtney Butler; five great grandchildren: Wyatt Butler, Reagan Rodeheaver, Jennifer Butler, James Pratt and Jana Clark; his best friend and best times with, Brady Bailey of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 AM Wednesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we request that all who attend the services wear a mask or face covering and observe all social distancing guidelines.
