Ray Chandler Obituary

Ray Chandler, age 73, of the Spivey Community, Erwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 5, 2020. He was a son of the late Claude and Minnie Hensley Chandler. Ray had lived all his life in Chandler Cove. He was retired from Hoover Ball after forty years of service. Ray was a member of Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, former Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Ray loved his LORD, his family and his church, it was his desire for all to make Heaven their home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Boice Chandler (wife Betty), one sister, Doris Whitson (husband Lawrence), brothers-in law: Franklin Hughes and Steve Lockner; nephew, Ricky Harris. Ray leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving companion of fifty-three years, Brenda Willis Chandler, his daughter, Lisa Chandler who he loved dearly; three sisters: Nellie Pate, Jessie Adkins and her husband, Phil who he loved like a brother, Janice Hughes; three sisters-in-law: Genevieve (Eugene) Harris, Lelian (Denlis) Foster, Cathy Lockner; six nephews: Keith Whitson, Travis Chandler, Brad Hughes, Jason Chandler, Jerry Harris, Mark Foster; three nieces: Karen Guinn, Susan Murdock, Stephanie Lockner; several great and great-great nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2020 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tommy Hensley, Reverend Kevin Laws, and Reverend David Byrd will officiate at the 6:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Tommy Hensley, David Higgins, David McNally, Damaris Higgins, and Benjamin Edwards. Active pallbearers will be Travis Chandler, Jason Chandler, Aaron Lewis, Everette Hughes, Robbie Casey, Gavin Casey, and Gage Casey. Honorary Pallbearers will be F.C. Peterson, Wayne Cooper, R.L. Peterson, Randall Lewis, J.D. Edwards, Keith Whitson, Brad Hughes, and Tommy Lewis. Committal service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 AM Monday. Ray's family would like to extend a special thanks to the 5400 unit of the Johnson City Medical Center for all the care and love they showed to him and his family.
