Peggy Banner Stockton, age 90, Erwin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Thursday, February 09, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and daughter of the late Arthur Buck Banner and Carrie Tapp Banner.
Peggy was a lifelong member of Erwin Church of Christ. She loved God with all her heart, attending church, her church family and going out to eat after church. Peggy was a meticulous homemaker and great cook. She was a cook at The Big Hat Restaurant and The Elms. Peggy taught the employees at Goober’s Restaurant to make pizza which she learned how to make while she lived in Washington D.C. for a year.
The role Peggy treasured the most was being a “Nana” to her grandchildren whom she helped raise. Her grandchildren were the light of her life! Peggy was devoted to her family, and she always wanted to take care of everyone.
She enjoyed reading, playing video games (Tetris was her favorite), crocheting, watching scary movies and The Andy Griffith Show.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Doc Stockton in 1977; an infant brother, Terry Banner; three nephews: Terry Tipton, Tracy Tipton and Kelvin Tipton, all of Knoxville.
Peggy leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her daughter, Donna McKinney and husband, Tracy, of Erwin; two grandchildren: Joshua Randolph and Jennifer Rowland (Matt); five great grandchildren: J.J. Randolph, Emma Randolph, twins: Gage and Gavin Randolph, Laken Rowland; brother, Ernest “Ernie” Banner of Erwin; sister, Margaret Tipton of Knoxville; nephew, Perry Lee Tipton, of Knoxville; numerous cousins also survive.
Peggy’s family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Erwin Church of Christ from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Minister Jeff Winters will officiate the 4:00 p.m. funeral service.
