Nancy Puckett Obituary

Nancy Puckett, a devoted wife, proud mother, and loving grandmother, died on December 5, 2022, at the age of 76.

Nancy spent her life surrounded by the boys and men that she loved. She grew up with three brothers, Larry Shuffler, Rick Shuffler, and R.C. Shuffler. Nancy was married to her husband Don for 34 years before his passing, and together they raised three sons, Donald, Jerry, and Andrew. Nancy also had three grandsons, George, Coleson and Clayton.

Nancy was born into the Shuffler family on July 16, 1946, in Kingsport, TN to parents Lucille (Spears) Shuffler and Roy Charles Shuffler. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennet High School in 1965; and she worked at Kingsport Press and Greene Valley Hospital prior to her marriage.

Nancy first met her husband Don Puckett in 1970 in Johnson City, TN, and they were married just three weeks later. Nancy and Don loved and adored each other and spent 34 years together as life partners and inseparable friends. She helped him run the family’s small businesses over the years, and together they raised their three sons.

Nancy enjoyed cooking for others more than anything else, and she had a reputation among family and friends for her fine southern cuisine. Nancy’s fried chicken dinners were a cause for celebration and were not to be missed. An ordinary breakfast at Nancy’s house was a full table spread, including biscuits and gravy from scratch. Her cooking was an expression of her love for us all.

Nancy was put on this earth to care for others. She was a primary caretaker at the end of life for her mother, her mother-in-law, and her husband. Soon after his death, she began making new friends at a local nursing home, and she would look after them as if they were her family. Throughout her life, she found her own peace and fulfillment in loving service to others in need.

After a battle with illnesses for the last year, Nancy passed from this earth peacefully, in comfort, and with dignity. She spent her last days surrounded by loving family members. Nancy was a devoted Christian and woman of strong faith. On December 5, 2022, she fell into the arms of her Lord and Savior, where she will forever rest in peace.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Larry Shuffler of Greeneville, TN; her sons: Jerry Puckett and Andrew Puckett; her grandson, George Puckett of Flag Pond, TN; her son, Donald Puckett and her daughter-in-law, Candace Puckett; her grandsons: Coleson and Clayton Puckett of Plano, TX.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel. Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate the 12:00 p.m. service.
