Matthew Alan Fisher Steward, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on May 2, 2025, after a courageous 30-year battle with diabetes. Matthew’s infectious humor, boundless love for life, and unwavering spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Matthew is survived by his devoted wife, Jana Steward; his son, Zachary Steward (Taylor); his stepson, Clay Wells Jr. CJ; his mother, Kathy Bell Fisher Steward; his sisters, Gina Shepherd Weaver (Randy) and Rebecca Fisher Greenway (Rodney); his mother-in-law, Linda “Grammy” Flack; his brother-in-law, Rusty Flack (Gina); and his cherished nieces and nephews, Ashley Greenway (Drew Edwards), Chelsea Greenway, Emily Shepherd, Andrew Shepherd, Graison Greenway, Haley Bishop, Emma Flack, Brynlei Forney, Anderson Edwards, and Ellie Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his father, Graham Leroy Fisher; his maternal grandparents, Dr. Alan Bell and Doris Bell; and his paternal grandparents, Graham Fisher and Annie Laurie Fisher.
Born in Kingsport, TN, Matthew graduated from Milligan College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He built a successful career, serving as Vice President of Louisiana Residential Mortgage before relocating to East Tennessee, where he excelled at Konica Minolta, earning the prestigious President’s Club award in 2019 for his outstanding performance.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew was the undisputed foosball world champion, a passionate sports enthusiast, and a hilarious comedian whose wit and warmth made him the life of every gathering. He loved people, adored his pets, and never met a stranger. To know Matt was to love him, and those fortunate enough to cross his path were truly blessed by his presence.
The family invites friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the home of Rebecca and Rodney Greenway, a cherished place where Matthew spent countless joyful holidays and summers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a brief service at 3:00 p.m. Afterward, all are welcome to join in honoring Matt’s vibrant life through sharing stories, enjoying his favorite foods, and listening to the music he loved.
