Matthew Carson Smith

Matthew Carson Smith, age 35, of Erwin, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin, and he is the son of Ricky Smith and Charlotte Shelton Smith.

Matthew loved listening to rock-n-roll music, especially Guns n Roses. He enjoyed collecting knives and guns.

Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Dorothy Smith.

In addition to his parents, Ricky and Charlotte Smith, Matthew is survived by his daughter, Joanna Rain Rose Smith; brothers: Eric Whaley, Jeremy Whaley and Tino Nopo.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Unicoi County EMS and the dialysis staff for all the care given to Matthew.

Matthew’s family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the funeral home. His funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Craig Shelton officiating.
