Mary Ann Street Obituary

Mary Ann Baker Street, age 93, of Bakersville, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Monday, May 04, 2026, while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Johnson City to the late Samuel M. Baker and Eva Carter Baker. Mary Ann lived most of her life in the Buladean Community where she raised her family.

Mary Ann loved the Lord with all her heart and she was a faithful, active member of Middle District Freewill Baptist Church. She served the church in her role as a Deacon’s wife, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary. Mary Ann loved her church family and enjoyed worshipping the Lord with all of them. She loved singing hymns with the “Old Rugged Cross” being one of her favorites.

Mary Ann was an excellent cook, and she took great pleasure in cooking for others. She prepared delicious home cooked meals including her famous “cowboy beans” for preachers, grieving families, church functions, and people in need throughout the Buladean Community.

Mary Ann adored her family, and she took great care of them. She was a devoted homemaker who worked hard to keep her home as well as her family very clean and tidy. Mary Ann was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her!  

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-five years. Jack Street in 2019; her ten siblings: Hazel Wilson, Johnny Baker, Cecil Baker, Freddie Baker, Sammy Baker, Paul Baker, Edith Bowman, Edna Nave, Jean Bennett, and Naomi Freeman.

Mary Ann leaves behind to cherish many precious memories her two daughters who took excellent care of her, Barbara Laws and her husband, Reverend Roger Laws, Janie Moffitt and her husband, Johnny, all of Bakersville; three grandchildren: Reverend Allen Laws (Melissa), Reverend Kevin Laws (Tiffany), and Stephanie Moffitt; great grandchildren: Delancey Laws (fiancé, Mason Barcel), Elijah Laws, Reverend Corbin Laws, Brody Laws, and Ike Laws; brother-in-law, Ray Bennett; special friend who was like a son to Mary Ann, Shorty Mosley; special nieces and nephews of the Baker family in Johnson City.

Mary Ann’s family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 08, 2026, at Middle District Freewill Baptist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Allen Laws, Reverend Blaine Whitson, and Reverend Kevin Laws officiating. Music will be provided by Stephanie Moffitt, Shorty Mosley, Reverend Allen Laws, Brody Laws, Elijah Laws, Delancey Laws, and Reverend Corbin Laws. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Elijah Laws, Corbin Laws, Brody Laws, Ike Laws, Johnny Moffitt, and Roger Laws will serve as pallbearers.
