Margaret Ann (Gouge) Williams

Margaret Ann Gouge Williams, age 89, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2023, while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of the late P.D. Gouge and Geneva Whitson Gouge. Margaret lived most of her life in Erwin.

She was a homemaker and devoted caregiver to her parents and her aunt. Margaret lovingly sacrificed her life for her children and parents. She was of the Christian Faith and loved serving the Lord.

Margaret had a bright, joyful personality with a contagious laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and believed laughter was the best medicine. Margaret had a green thumb and enjoyed growing her flowers which covered her front porch. She liked watching westerns, bold colors, cooking, taking care of others and being involved with Happy Planner. Margaret loved wearing lipstick and her motto was, “never leave home without putting on your lipstick!” She was an animal lover and enjoyed square dancing in her younger years.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brother, Michael Gouge; sister, Bobbie Jean Patton; nephew, Shawn Patton and her Aunt Bertie Proffit.

Margaret leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her five children: Shane Williams (Becky) of Madisonville, TN, Donald Williams (Renae) of Erwin, Brenda Williams of Powder Springs, GA, Julia Williams of Cartersville, GA and Andy Williams (Jacque) of Erwin; grandchildren: Laela Batista (Mark), Julie Batista (Alec) and Sara Williams; step-grandchildren: Paula Beck, Lee Caswell and Tyler Burns; great grandchildren: Aubree Hensley and Caden Harmon; step great grandchildren: MaryRenae Caswell, Kynslee Beck, Linlee Kate Beck, Cameron Smith and Bella Burns; two nephews: Chuck Patton and Mark Patton; her dear friend, Nancy Hensley.

Margaret’s family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the funeral home chapel. Reverend Karl Gasser will officiate the 6:00 p.m. funeral service. A private family committal will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
