Mamie Lorraine (Engle) Cousins

Mamie Lorraine Engle Cousins, age 88, of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 02, 2024, at the Center on Aging and Health, while she was surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and daughter of the late James and Louise Edwards Engle.

Mamie was of the Christian Faith. She was employed by the former Superior Hone and Industrial Garment. Mamie was an exquisite cook, and she was known for her delicious biscuits and her famous Mamie Burgers. She loved canning and playing horseshoes.

In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, John Cousins on June 19, 2019; one son, Johnny Cousins; son-in-law, Garrison Williams; three brothers: George “Bud”, IG, and Carl Engle; three sisters: Helen McCurry, Edna Grimes, and Flo Smith.

Mamie’s survivors include her three children: Larry Cousins (Diana), Cathy Williams, and Kim Edwards (Todd), all of Erwin; special friend, Arlene Harris; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Center on Aging and Health Special Care Unit nurses: Cheri, Robin, Kylie, Tara, Cara, Christy, Nancy, Julie and Wanda.

The Cousins family will receive friends on Thursday, September 05, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Zach Smith will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrell McCurry, Don McCurry, Randy McCurry, Ricky McCurry, Todd Edwards, Doug Bowman, Jimmy McCurry, and Kenny McCurry.
