Lucille Cordle Lawing, age 96, of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Hillview Health Center. She was born in Red Ash, Virginia to the late E.S. Cordle and Mary Stillwell Cordel.
Lucille lived most of her life in Erwin.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Lucille loved the Lord with all her heart, and she was spiritually minded. She enjoyed singing hymns while she was tending her home. Lucille worked with her husband for many years as a custodian at various businesses. Also, she was a dedicated homemaker.
Lucille had the sweetest, kind heart and she adored her family, especially her only grandchild, David. She liked to joke around and make people laugh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years and a half, William Lawing in 1999; five brothers and one sister.
Those left behind to cherish many wonderful memories of her: one daughter, Ruby Bailey; grandson, David Lawing, both of Erwin; three brothers: Charles Cordle (June), Thomas Cordle and Frank Cordle; two sisters: Laura Furches and Annie Fleenor; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Lucille’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Mausoleum. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the mausoleum by 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
