Larkey Ray McInturff, age 62, Apopka, Florida, formerly of Unicoi, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Saturday, November 19, 2022. He is a son of Kay Linville McInturff and the late Ray McInturff, who passed away on February 20, 1998. Larkey lived most of his life in Unicoi and Johnson City before moving to Apopka eight years ago.
He graduated from Unicoi County High School where he played the Quarterback position in football. Larkey earned his BS degree in Network Administration. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after twenty-nine years of service where he worked as a Chemical Technician.
Larkey was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Apopka. He shared the love of Jesus wherever he went and with everyone he encountered. Larkey had a servant’s heart for missions and children. He participated in several mission trips to Moldova where he distributed shoes and backpacks to orphanages. Larkey drove the youth and adults of Calvary Baptist Church to Brooklyn, New York for seventeen years to participate in inner-city mission work. During their time in Brooklyn, they would serve meals to the homeless and teach the children about Jesus.
Larkey began working with the Baptist Disaster Relief Teams in Tennessee and he continued serving with this ministry after he moved to Florida. He drove the church bus for Trinity Christian School during the summer, taking the children on field trips throughout the Orlando area.
Larkey’s joyful personality and big smile would light up a room! You may have started out being a stranger to Larkey however, when you left him, he considered you a friend. Larkey enjoyed playing football, watching football and he was an avid cyclist.
In addition to his mother, Kay Linville McInturff of Unicoi, Larkey leaves his wife of twenty-three years, Jill Peterson McInturff of Apopka, Florida and formerly of Erwin; his two sisters: Larna Osborne (Junior) and Natalie Tilson (Steve); mother-in-law, Billie Grace Peterson; special niece, Rachel Tilson; a special friend, Liz Mastin; numerous cousins and friends also survive.
Larkey’s family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Unicoi United Methodist Church. Larkey’s life will be celebrated during his service which will be begin at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David Crutchfield and Dr. Mike Pinner officiating. Curtis Engle will share remarks and Larkey’s sister, Natalie will share a heartfelt Eulogy. Music will be provided by Trey Dishner, Karen Dishner and Larry Pate. Committal will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Larkey’s cousins will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
