Kenneth Sluder, age 83, of Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at his residence while he was surrounded by his family. He was born in Banner Elk, North Carolina to the late William Smith Sluder and Susan Belle McKinney Sluder. Kenneth and his wife moved from Johnson City to Unicoi thirty years ago.
He retired from Automated Building Systems where he worked as a Cost Estimator for forty years. Kenneth was a member of Shell Creek Christian Church. After moving to Unicoi, Kenneth attended Zion Church of Jesus.
Kenneth was talented at woodworking. He hand carved candle sticks, bowls and birdhouses. Kenneth could build anything. He was also a stone mason.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by six siblings: Robert, Virgie, Harold, Edith, Jack, and Hazel.
Kenneth leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, his wife of sixty years, Helen Moore Sluder; three brothers: Ronald Sluder, Ray Sluder, and Bill Sluder (Pauline); sister, Gerri Hayden (Dave Barrett); numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The Sluder family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Unicoi Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Sluder will officiate his Uncle Kenneth’s 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
