Kathy McInturff passed away on November 11, 2025, at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. She was 82 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Myrtle McInturff; her brothers: Fred McInturff, Bob McInturff, and Dave McInturff; her sisters: Mary Nelson, Jeanie Roberts, Dot McInturff, Thelma Ray, and Vi Barcel.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Reavey; son, Sean Reavey; her twin sister, Val Robinson and her husband, Rich Robinson, Peggy Johnson and her husband, Johnny Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Kathy graduated from Unicoi High School in 1962. She and several of her sisters found employment in Washington, DC early on in their careers. However, Kathy eventually returned home to East Tennessee to earn a degree.
She graduated from East Tennessee State University with a BS, Cum Laude, on June 5, 1976. She married Mike Reavey at Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church the next day. They began their married life together in New York where their son, Sean, was born on March 12, 1980.
Mike’s career opportunities brought the family to Texas, followed by China in 1985, followed by Austria in 1990, and then back to Texas in 1992. The move to China was a big surprise to Kathy and she was hesitant about the move, but in retrospect she would say she was happy about having the experience. While in China and Austria she and her family visited several other countries, but she cherished the long summers she got to spend every year with her son back home in Unicoi, surrounded by her family.
There is no doubt that China was the most interesting location for Kathy. She began married life thinking that her destiny would be in Northern Virginia.
Following Mike’s retirement and Sean attending college, Kathy relocated with Mike to Pennsylvania to be near her sister Val and her family in Gettysburg, PA.
Sean moved to Ft. Worth, TX to attend graduate school, where he stayed after graduation. Kathy and Mike then joined him in Texas until they all relocated to North Carolina in 2022.
A private family visitation and inurnment will be held for Kathy.
