Junior L. Banks

Junior L. Banks, age 72, of Unicoi, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He was a native of Carter County but had lived in Unicoi County for the past forty-six years. He was a son of the late Walter Brownlow and Gracie McClellan Banks.

Junior worked at the Unicoi County Hospital for many years before his retirement. He was a member of Unicoi Church of God. Junior loved playing guitar, fishing and metal detecting. He enjoyed going to yard sales.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jay and Harvey Banks; one sister, Maybell Birchfield, two half-sisters.

Junior leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of forty-six years, Judy Moore Banks; three sisters: Bonnie Bowman, Bea Holtsclaw, Jenny Wiseman; one half-brother, Nelse Banks; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Junior’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Unicoi Funeral Home. Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate the 6:00 pm funeral service. Committal service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Jones Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am Wednesday.
