Joseph Daniel Huskins, age 75, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, August 04, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center, while he was surrounded by his family. He was born on August 12, 1948, to the late Floyd and Arlene Strickland Huskins.
Joseph was a United States Navy Veteran who served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and a National Defense Service Medal. Joseph retired from Global Industries as a Captain after many years of service. He received an Offshore Safety Award during his working career. Joseph’s offshore pipeline installation work was dangerous, and he saved a fellow co-worker’s life.
He was of the Baptist Faith. Joseph loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a generous heart for helping others. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to different genres of music. He was a member of the Unaka Gun Club.
Joseph’s survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Veronica Nichols Huskins; two children: Lee Huskins (Tunya), of Erwin, and Dominique Bowen (Nick), of Unicoi; six grandchildren: Mackenzie Huskins Anderson (Seth), Keeli Huskins, Madalin Huskins, Lillyahnah Harris, Indi Bowen, and Finlee Bowen; one great grandson, Kaysen Anderson; two brothers: Robert “Butch” Huskins, and Dwight Huskins (Joyce); special friends: David Stepp, Greg Hart, and Lester Benoit; his kitties, Suki and Sophie; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Huskins family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 07, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Pastor Noah Taylor will officiate the 6:00 p.m. funeral service. Joseph’s committal will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Site). Military Honors will be rendered by DAV Chapter 39 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Butch Huskins, Dwight Huskins, Jay Shelton, David Stepp, Robbie Casey, and Kevin Huskins. Those wishing to attend the committal are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Joseph to: The Alzheimer’s Association and/or The Parkinson’s Association.
