John Leonard Scheel, age 74, of Cosby, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 17th, at Erwin Health Care Center, Erwin, TN.
He was born August 25, 1947, in Tacoma, WA and he was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Baca, his stepfather Benito Baca and his father Leonard Scheel.
He is survived by his wife Karen Scheel of 53 years, daughters: Tracey Ornelas, Colorado, Penny Scheel & Rosemary Scheel, Washington & son Jacob Scheel, Tennessee. He has 12 grandchildren, and his 10th great grandchild is due end of this year. He is also survived by his younger sister Linda Darden of Texas.
John enjoyed his mountain man style of life. From muzzle loading shooting, to hunting with a primitive bow, camping in a teepee, and was a true frontiersman in his own time.
John taught his children camping, how to shoot rifles, bows, throw knives and axes, to swim, and many other survival techniques. His pride was teaching all his children to be independent and strong adults that could care for themselves under any circumstances.
John made Karen's life an adventure. He gave her a life full of travel, camping, seeing and surviving our countryside. John was a solid rock, best friend, strength and security to Karen all their blessed married lives. He was always first up and the last to sleep caring for his wife and family and will be deeply missed.
John's favorite song, shared also by his late grandma Gladys Whittles, is ' The Old Rugged Cross' written in 1912 by George Bennard.
John had a blessed and full life.
May you soar like an eagle. Xoxo
