John Henry Hicks, age 70, Erwin, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He is a son of the late John and Beulah Walls Hicks. John was a native of Madisonville, KY, and had lived in Calvert City, KY before moving to Unicoi County thirty years ago.
John was a member of Fishery Community Church. He retired from Thomas Construction. John was fun to be around and he enjoyed fishing, camping, and telling stories. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.
John leaves behind his wife of twenty seven years, Connie Hicks, four children: Kimberly and Mike Smith, Charles Pleasant, Helen Hicks, David Hicks; three grandchildren: Alex Pleasant, Megan Smith and David Shelton, Kelie and Cody Keever; four great grandchildren: Aisley Russell, Mason Smith, Luke Smith, Nora Keever; three brothers-in-law: Louie and Virginia Bailey, Richard Bailey, Johnny and Debbie Bailey; one sister-in-law, June Bailey; one brother, Dwight Hicks; two sisters: Sue and Gary Cope, Linda Leslie; one uncle, Mac Walls. Six nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Evergreen Mausoleum. Pastor Art Gibson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Charles Pleasant, Charlie Harrington, David Shelton, Louie Bailey, and Richard Bailey. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Mausoleum by 1:55 PM Wednesday.
Pastor Art Gibson will officiate a drive-in memorial service following the graveside at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Fishery Community Church.
