Our beloved brother Jeff took his last breath today and is now with the maker of all life and outdoor nature that Jeff loved so much. Jeff is greatly loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.
He was a very free-spirited river raft guide. In his youth, Jeff hitchhiked across the country. He enjoyed a good life. He rescued many dogs from abuse. On the river, Jeff knew the rocks and dangers ahead and safely guided people down white waters in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He took them down class 5 rapids, hydraulics, eddy’s, high water, and boulder gardens. Then delivered them to the still waters downstream. Jeff took his profession of guiding and protecting others seriously.
He was a member of Unaka Mountain Search and Rescue. He was a certified Emergency Medical Technician. He was a certified Wilderness First Aid provider. He was certified as a Basic Life Support provider through the American Heart Association. Also, he was AED certified. He knew the signals for stopping trains and guiding helicopters in mountain rescues.
Jeff studied at Northeast State Community College, Walters State Community College, and the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He considered himself a Big Orange Volunteer football fan for life. Jeff was a United States Air Force Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Athan Marion “Buster” Brown, and Mary Jane Kistner Pack, as well as his younger brother, Hal J. Brown.
Survivors include his two brothers: Dana Steve Brown, MD of Gray and David Marion Brown of Wenatchee, WA; one sister, Jamey E. Brown of Kingsport; nieces and nephews: Patrick Brown, Chris Brown, Laura Brown Renaud, Adam Williams, and Aeron Brown.
Service plans will be announced.
