Jean (McKinney) Bowman

Jean McKinney Bowman, age 88, of Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Sunday, January 04, 2026, while she was surrounded by her loving family. She lived most of her life in Erwin and is a daughter of the late Walter McKinney and Ida Evelyn Tipton Honeycutt.

Jean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of Shallow Ford Baptist Church. She was very active in her church having served in the Children’s Nursery, Church Library and Hospitality Committee.

Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for her family and church events. Jean liked to read.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Mitchell Bowman in 1995; her siblings: Betty Jo Harris (Herbert), Norman McKinney (Mae), Diana McCurry (Ralph), and Ricky Honeycutt.

Jean leaves behind to cherish many precious memories her loving and devoted husband of sixty-nine years, Leonard Bowman; her daughter, Kim Bowman Sims and husband, Brian; three grandchildren: Daniel Sims, Mitchell Sims, and Sarah Sims; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Bowman family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 08, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor David Crutchfield and Pastor Reggie Weems will officiate the 7:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Gary Amos, Larry Pate, Phyllis Bennett, and The Crutchfield Family. Jean’s committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Evergreen Mausoleum. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the mausoleum by 10:50 a.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Jean to: Calvary Baptist Church, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
