Janice (Willis) Barnett

Janice Willis Barnett, age 74, of Unicoi, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Erwin Healthcare Center. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Ovlen and Helen Pansy Higgins Willis.

Janice graduated from East Tennessee State University where she earned a BS Degree in Accounting. She was previously employed at Eastman Chemical Company as an Accountant. Janice wrote articles for the Erwin Record and wrote a book titled Unicoi and Limestone Cove through Arcadia Books.

Janice was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton. She served as a volunteer with Unicoi County Historical Society. Janice enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and internationally. She loved planting and tending flowers in her garden.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law: Bryan Roderick, David McClanahan, and Randy Arrowood.

Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Leonard Barnett; one brother, Michael Willis (Starlene DeBord) of Tallahassee, Florida; three sisters: Sue Matousek, Burke, Virginia, Kathy Arrowood Oates (Craig Oates) of Kingsport, and Karen McClanahan (Mike Ketron) of Abingdon, Virginia; sister-in-law, Marylyn Bailey (Jesse); three nephews: Randy Keith Arrowood, Steven Arrowood, and Willis Matousek; one niece, Katie McClanahan; several great nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 02, 2024, at the funeral home. Reverend Dr. Brian Wyatt will officiate. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Janice to your charity of choice to help with flood recovery efforts in Unicoi County.
