James Kenneth Higgins, age 78, Erwin, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Unicoi County Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Fred T. and Lena Mae Bowman Higgins.
Kenneth was retired from Hoover Ball after twenty-eight years of service. He was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church, where he had formerly served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Kenneth always was faithful to attend church as long as his health allowed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trading guns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Luella Mae Higgins on March 30, 2011; one brother, Bill Higgins; four sisters: Ruby Tittle, Lillian Kendall, Nadine Tisdale, and Mary Lou Ricker.
Kenneth leaves behind to cherish his memory, three children: Sherri Garland and husband, Alan, Randy Higgins, Darren Higgins and wife, Darlene; two grandchildren: Zachary Garland, Shelby Higgins Hill and husband, Adam; one great granddaughter, Clara Garland; one brother, Glynn Higgins and wife, Barbara; one sister, Frenda Williams; special nephew, Wayne Higgins; two sisters-in-law: Finetta Quillen and Jeanette Quillen; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM. Rev. Kevin Laws will officiate. Pallbearers will be Scotty Baucom, Joel Higgins, Robert Hensley, Marlin Hensley, Jamie Miller, Scotty Wilcox, Zachary Garland, and Adam Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Quillen, Deacons and Trustees of Southside FWB Church.
Committal service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Evergreen Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the Evergreen Mausoleum by 10:55 AM Wednesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we request that all who attend the services wear a mask or face covering and observe all social distancing guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Southside FWB Church Building Fund, 1313 Chestoa Pike, Erwin, TN 37650.
