James F. Baublitz, Sr., age 93, Erwin, went to his heavenly home on Monday, September 5, 2022. He was born and raised in Maryland. James is a son of the late Admiral Dewey Baublitz and Bessie Marie Whitcomb Baublitz. He lived in Martinsburg, West Virginia for several years before moving to Flag Pond in 1993.
James was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during the Korean War. During his time in the Army, James was awarded an Occupational Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and United Nations Service Medal.
He retired from Perry Engineer where he worked as a Driller/Blaster on highways for many years. James attended Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church and West Park Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. James loved to dress up in hillbilly themed costumes for Halloween and various country festivals. He was a self-taught musician, and he could play the dulcimer, guitar, autoharp, mandolin, harmonica, organ, and juice harp.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Baublitz on April 6, 1998, and one brother, Lewis Clifton Baublitz.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory, children: Steven Baublitz, Erwin, James F. “Bucky” Baublitz, Jr., Flag Pond, and John Wayne Baublitz (Tammy), Cochran, GA; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the State Line Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. on Saturday.
