Obituary
Hubert Franklin “Buddy” Johnson, Sr., age 85, Erwin, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He is a son of the late Oscar Isaac Johnson and Rosa Lee Cooper Johnson. Buddy was born in Poplar, NC and he lived most of his life in Erwin.
He retired from GMF where he was employed as a Metal Fabricator. Also, he owned a paint and body shop in Pensacola, FL. Buddy was of the Christian Faith. He wrote several books and was a Storyteller at Jonesborough Days. Buddy was an expert at gunsmithing, and he enjoyed re-building old cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Johnson.
Buddy leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons: Hubert Franklin “Frankie” Johnson, Jr. of Erwin and Chris Johnson (Jimmie Easterday); three grandchildren: Christina Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Randy McKay Johnson; one great granddaughter, Luna Robinson; two sisters: Linda Toney and Barbara “Jean” Leedy, both of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Buddy’s family will have a service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023 in the Miller Family Cemetery, Poplar, NC.
