Reverend Homer Eugene “Gene” Riddle, age 85, Flag Pond, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 2, 2021, while he was surrounded by his family. He is a son of the late Omri Ray and Iva Mae Riddle. Gene lived most of his life in Unicoi County.
Gene retired from Wolf Laurel where he was Superintendent of Roads and Maintenance. He was the preacher at Greg’s Chapel Church in Fall Branch for several years. Gene served as a preacher for many churches over the years, including the Gospel Lighthouse which he purchased in Unicoi.
He loved attending police car auctions, working on old cars and trading cars.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Lola Colena Shelton Riddle on January 22, 2014; twin daughters, Darlene and Karlene Riddle; son-in-law, Darrell Edwards.
Survivors include his seven children: Marvin Riddle (Geraldine Lloyd), Sue Patterson (Wayne), Randy Riddle (Danette), Terry Riddle, Tim Riddle (Heather), Michelle Riddle, all of Flag Pond and Keith Riddle (Marsha), Chuckey; ten grandchildren: Jenni Shelton, Nehemiah Riddle, Jess Edwards, Dalton Honeycutt, Hannah Riddle, Paul Riddle, Thomas Riddle, Katie Riddle, Victoria Reynolds and Landon Riddle; four brothers: Othel Wayne Ray (Barbara), Doran Ray (Donna), Hugh Lamb (Sherry) and Kenneth Lamb; three sisters: Glenna Patton, Willadean Tweed and Sue Smith; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 10, 2021, in Pete Creek Cemetery. Reverend Charlie Byrd and Reverend Bob Campbell will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. on Friday.
