Hilda Faye Gilliland Jones Daives, age 84, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, February 02, 2026, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and daughter of the late Carl and Evelyn Clouse Gilliland.
Hilda retired from the Johnson City Press Chronicle after thirty-five years of service where she was the District Circulation Manager. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Hilda was a kindhearted, strong, hard-working woman who loved her family dearly. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored. Hilda was always taking care of others and making sure they were fed well.
She enjoyed driving through the mountains, going to flea markets, and growing beautiful flowers. Hilda had a green thumb and she could grow anything! Her roses were exceptionally beautiful. Hilda collected Spice of Life Pottery.
In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jones; stepdaughter, Annette Michelle “Shelly” Davies.
Hilda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of thiry-two years, Alfred John “Buzz” Davies, II; her children: Kevin Jones (Sheila) of Lawton, OK, Kenneth Jones of Erwin, Randy Jones of Johnson City, and Bobby Jones (Debra) of Erwin; stepdaughters: Cheri Greene (Sam) of Limestone, Paulette Davies of Johnson City, and Dr. Elizabeth Hall (Jeff) of Goodlettsville, TN; grandchildren: Tammy Maldonado, Bobby Jones (Nicole), Kati Linkous (Eric), Brenna Jones, Kara Jones, Liam Jones, Neilisha Burton (Michael), Darren Owenby (Kaitlyn), Jeremy Owenby, Taylor Owenby, Gracie Stewart, Abbigail Stewart, Chloe Stewart, Marieh Davies, and Drew Hall; step granddaughter, Rylee Stiltner; several great grandchildren; sister, Sharon Peterson of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 09, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Hilda’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Noah Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Whitson, Tim Whitson, David True, Kaleb Reynolds, Sam Greene, and Brad Stewart,
