Helen Lucille (Hirst) Bondurant

Helen Lucille Hirst Bondurant, age 92, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Erwin, Tennessee on Monday, December 23, 2025. She was with her wonderful daughter, Dawn Stackpole, loving second daughter, Scotty Perrin, and best friend, Skippy her canine companion.

Helen was born on April 28, 1933, at her family home in Carroll County, Ohio. A daughter of the late Jim and Pauline Metts Hirst. She graduated from Salineville High School. Growing up, she was a member of the Riley’s Methodist Church in Salineville, Ohio and sang in the choir.

Helen retired from the Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina where, in 1970, she became the first Human Resource Director and created the Human Resources Department there. In 1972, she was a founding and charter member of the North Carolina Healthcare Human Resources Association, formerly the North Carolina Hospital Personnel Association. She was very active in the Mizpah United Methodist Church in Reidsville, North Carolina. Her final membership was at the Bethlehem Methodist Church in Eden, North Carolina where she had her home.

Helen loved traveling, riding motorcycles with her late husband, Paul, and spending time with her daughter in Tennessee. Helen loved her close-knit family and spent numerous holidays and vacations with them in California, Hawaii, Ohio, and Florida. She was always the life of the party and the many memories of her will be cherished by her family.

Helen is survived by her beloved daughter, Dawn, other daughter, Scotty; stepdaughter, Donna Stackpole McNeill (John); stepson, Andy Stackpole (Kathy) and her beloved dog, Skippy. She will be dearly missed by her brother-in-law, Tom Allmon of Ohio; nieces: Lori Allmon Hogue (Mark), Patti Hirst Mickelsen (Paul), Susie Hirst Botke; nephew, Tom Allmon (Sheree); step grandson, Jeff Bondurant (Renae); as well as great nieces, nephews, and other neighbors and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Stackpole and late husband, Paul Bondurant; her parents, Jim and Pauline; brothers: Harold Hirst and Eugene Hirst; sisters: Evelyn Hirst Smith, and Janice Hirst Allmon; stepson, Eric Stackpole.
