Hattie Marie Hyder Bell, age 81, Limestone Cove Community, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Friday, March 10, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Reverend Martin Hyder and Goldia Gouge Hyder.
Hattie was a very hard worker and formerly employed at Scott Farms, Industrial Garment, Harris-Tarkett and Jones and Church Farms. She was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church and over the years she was very involved with several churches in Unicoi County and Carter County. Hattie enjoyed quilting, word puzzles, farming, gardening, and flowers. She was the caretaker of Bell Cemetery for many years. Hattie never met a stranger, and she was always willing to help others out in any way she could.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. Bell on May 07, 2003; two brothers: Jack Hyder and J.H. Hyder; seven sisters: Neta Bennett, Gladys Roberts, Mae Berry, Jewel Odom, Mary Vance, Virgie Dutton and Madgie Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Bell; step grandson, Travis Shumate.
Hattie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her three sons: Stevie Martin Bell of King George, VA, James Roger “Jimmy” Bell of Johnson City and David Edward Bell (Kelly) of Unicoi; grandchildren: Anthony Bell (Katie), Cody Bell (Samantha), Austin Bell, Dakoda Bell, Brody Bell, Karson Bell, Kameron Bell and Amanda Murray; step grandchildren: Brandon Shumate (April) and Ryan Shumate (Emily); great grandchildren: Ryan Alexander Bell, Gavin Michael Bell, Lucas James Bell, Alyssa Katherine Bell and Greyson Henry Bell; step great grandchild, Bella Shumate; sister, Armeta Ringman (significant other, Michael Wolf); sister-in-law, Helen Hyder; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Estil Williams will officiate the 7:00 p.m. funeral service. Committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Bell Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday.
