Guy Garland

Donald “Guy” Garland, age 65, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, December 06, 2024. He is a son of the late Ray and Phoebe Garland. Guy was born and raised in Mitchell County, North Carolina before moving to Unicoi twenty years ago.

He retired from the logging industry a few years ago. Guy was of the Baptist Faith. He loved his family dearly and was a proud grandfather. Guy had a very friendly personality, and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and forging ginseng. Guy loved his little dog and best friend, Beau.

In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles Garland, and R.V. “Bug” Garland; one sister, Martha Brodrick.

Guy is survived by his son, Richard Morton Garland and fiancé, Hope Bennett, of Unicoi; his precious little granddaughter, Lucilla “Lucy”; two sisters: Rosella Yelton (Roy), of Bakersville, North Carolina, Anna McKhun (Eddie), of Georgia; two brothers: Bradley Garland (Phyllis), of Black Water, Virginia, and Phillip Garland (Debbie), of Burnsville, North Carolina; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Beans Creek Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Guy’s funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor G.B. Garland officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitson-Garland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Morton, Jacob Cutler, Randal Ledford, Roy Yelton, Luke Yelton, and Brian Brodrick.
