COEBURN, VIRGINIA – Everette Beckner Long, 80, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2023. He was born in Dante, Virginia, and was the oldest son of the late Beecher Beckner and the late Coetta White Long. Everette was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Chadwick Blaine Long, and his sister, Mary Long.
Everette was an electrician by trade and had previously worked for the Smithsonian Institute. He had a deep love for the mountains and proudly called Smith Ridge his home. Everette had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He was a survivor known for his creativity and innovation. He possessed a generous and kind heart, and those who knew him loved him dearly.
Everette is survived by his oldest son, Marcus Shane Long, and his wife, Lori. He is also survived by his two daughters, Carla Jane Long and Rebecca Long Lucas, as well as five grandchildren: Blaine Long Almesallmy, Noah Lucas, Caleb Lucas, Abigail Lucas, and Roy Ogechi. Additionally, he leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Luna and Layla. Everette is also survived by six siblings: Patricia Glovier of Pinellas Park, Florida; Nancy Shultz of Sevierville, Tennessee; Judy Stump of Sevierville, Tennessee; Mariah Starling of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Sandra Grizzle and her husband Danny of Coeburn, Virginia; and Jeff Long of Sevierville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service for Everette Long, officiated by Reverend Eual Yates, will be conducted on June 17th. Family and friends are invited to attend an after-service fellowship at the homeplace for dinner on the grounds.
