Ella Mae Hughes Rogers, age 94, of Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. She lived most of her life in Erwin and is a daughter of the late Harrison Hughes and Laura Bennett Hughes.

Ella retired from Piccadilly Cafeteria where she worked as a cook for several years. She was a forty-year member of the Erwin Church of God where she taught Sunday School. Ella attended Southside Freewill Baptist Church. She loved going to church and she loved her church family.

Ella enjoyed eating sweets, especially her Dum Dums suckers, and having Paula read the Bible and sing to her.

In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-years, Buford Rogers on January 01, 2009; one brother, Fred Hughes; one sister, Pearl Sluder.

Ella leaves behind to cherish her memory, her two sons: Jimmie Rogers and wife, Patty, Kevin Rogers and wife, Sue, all of Erwin; three grandchildren: Jamie Rogers (Danielle), Laura Hartley (Jason) and Mason Briscoe; three great grandchildren: Luke Rogers, Laney Rogers, and Cora Hartley; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County, especially Dylan “Bill” and Estella.
