Edward “Eddie” G. Adkins, age 69, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Erwin Health Care. He was born on October 3, 1955, to the late John Clifton and Sarah Lorene Johnson Adkins. Eddie grew up in Elkhorn City, KY, before moving to Johnson City after he graduated from high school.
Eddie received his bachelor’s degree from ETSU where he played football for two years. He retired from CSX Transportation Maintenance of Way. Eddie was a member of Elkhorn City Baptist Church.
Eddie was a Master Scuba Diver for almost fifty years. He was a small aircraft pilot and was an avid photographer of nature. He enjoyed being outdoors, traveling, snow skiing and hiking.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles.
Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his brother, David Adkins and wife, Michelle; one nephew, Logan Anthony Adkins and wife, Allison; one niece, Shelby Adkins Oakley and husband, Christopher; one great nephew, Wyatt Oakley; one great step-nephew, Aidan McGinley all of Florida; special cousins: Tommy and Brenda Johnson, Belinda Taylor, Gail Vines, Brad Johnson, and Pam Clements. Several other cousins and numerous friends also survive.
Eddie’s family will receive friends Thursday April 10, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Tony Peterson and Mike Hensley officiating. Committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m. Friday.
