Edna Ruth (Clark) Crowe

Edna Ruth Crowe, age 106, of Erwin, passed away peacefully at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County after a brief illness. She was born in Marmet, West Virginia, the first daughter of a coal miner and schoolteacher.

Edna grew up I the coal camps and enjoyed walks in the mountains and attending school. She had a close relationship with her sister, Margaret, and helped raise her when their mother passed away at a young age. Her life was hard during the depression, but she had a strong will and was able to make her way. During Edna’s life span, she saw many changes in the world including indoor electricity, family automobiles, television, space flight, US Bicentennial, internet, cell phones, and much more.

Edna was an avid reader, and she loved to watch movies and old westerns. She married twice and had eight children. Spending time with her children and grandchildren gave her great joy! Edna traveled to see them whenever she could. She was a member of the Clinchfield Senior Center where she made many friends over the years.

Edna is survived by her children: Priscilla Heider (James) of N. Tonawanda, New York, Brenda Griffy, Linda Purchase, and Edwin Crowe (Marianne), all of Erwin; twenty grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, plus a large extended family spanning five generations also survive.

She was preceded by her parents, Theodore and Clara Clark; sisters: Margaret and Theda Clark; sons: Keith, Jesse, Ronald Goble, and Theodore Crowe; spouses: Jesse Goble and Wiliam Crowe; several grandchildren.

It was Edna’s final wish not to have a service and to be laid to rest next to her beloved sister, Margaret.

Edna’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Amedisys Home Health/Hospice and Christian Care Center for giving Edna exceptional care and dignity in her last days.
