Donald Jack Moore, age 93, Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Rufus and Julia Horne Moore. Donald lived most of his life in California before moving to Erwin in 1990.
Donald was a United States Army Veteran, having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was awarded Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and Good Conduct Medal. Donald earned his Master’s Degree from Cal-Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA. After teaching high school for several years in California he retired.
He was a member of the Erwin Elk’s Lodge where he enjoyed playing golf and helping with the upkeep of the golf course. Donald also enjoyed playing tennis, fishing, and taking his family camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Rufus, Louis, Bill, Bud, and Bob; three sisters: Martha, Doris, and Mary; his grandson, Sam Moore.
Donald leaves behind his four children: Michael Moore, Susan Moore Cherry, Jeff Moore, and Russell Moore; six grandchildren: Kelly, Patrick, Casey, Nicholas, Tara and Tanya; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Gene Moore; sister, Peggy McCarthy; mother of his children, Marjorie Wolcott Moore; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Donald’s memorial service will be held at a later date.
