Obituary

David Lawrence Heximer, Sr., age 84, of the Coffee Ridge Community in Erwin, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, July 7, 2023. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York to the late Kenneth Guy Heximer and Georgina Ringleb Heximer Skeens.

He retired from the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant after having served his country honorably for twenty-two years. David served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. David was part of the Strategic Air Command where he served as a B-52 Tailgunner. He was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and The Distinguished Flying Cross. David also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for service during the Vietnam War from Representative Diane Harshbarger.

He attended Southwest Mississippi Community College where he completed a two-year electrical program. David was a faithful member of Clear Branch Baptist Church, and he looked forward to attending every week.

David was the family patriarch and great protector of his beloved family. Even in his death David was hopelessly devoted to his wife, Martha for sixty-two years. David was a devoted friend and mentor to his family members as well as many others. While David was in the Air Force he and his family lived in different places within the United States and Internationally. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his family in their RV. David and his wife moved to Coffee Ridge in 2007.  

David enjoyed walking every day and visiting with his Coffee Ridge neighbors. He loved animals, nature, and people. David was a craftsman, he liked collecting coins and watching westerns. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him, especially his beloved family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Mavis Heximer Chitty, Kenneth Heximer and Ellen Heximer Blair.

David leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, his wife of sixty-two years, Martha Sudduth Heximer; two children: Roianne Heximer Southern (J.T.) of Bell Buckle, TN and David Lawrence “Larry” Heximer, Jr. (Sarah) of Houston, TX; brother, George Heximer; four grandchildren: David “Trey” Heximer, III (Elizabeth), Andrew Garrett Heximer (Janelle), Anne-Malone Thomas and Guy Thomas (Kristen); six great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
