Darrell Sayer Obituary

Darrell Lynn Sayer, age 77, of Erwin, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, July 05, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to the late Leonard Sayer and Faye Harris Sayer. Darrell lived most of his life in Pennsylvania before making his home in Erwin seventeen years ago.

He was a stellar athlete who excelled in soccer during high school. Darrell went on to play soccer at Grove City College where he graduated with a BS degree in Biology. After his college graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps where he attended and graduated from Officers Candidate School. Darrell served his country honorably from August 1968 – March 1973 and earned the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Mach 2 Club. Darrell was part of a two-man crew on the F-4 Phantom II where he was the Radio Intercept Officer. Darrell was stationed in Hawaii as well as Japan.

He was a pharmaceutical sales rep for Glaxo Wellcome as well as a real estate agent. Darrell was of the Christian Faith.

Darrell was very spontaneous and always ready for an adventure! He was a very kind and generous man with a keen sense of humor. Darrell enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, listening to various genres of music, playing golf, attending auctions, buying and selling antiques on eBay. He liked to sit on his front porch and watch the birds and deer. Darrell loved his family very much and he was a devoted husband, father, beloved stepfather, grandfather, and brother.

Darrell leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, his wife of seventeen years, Rebecca Powers Sayer; three sons: Brian Sayer (Carla), Kevin Sayer (Jackie), and Jonathan Sayer (Barbie); stepchildren: Daniel Shipp and Andrew Shipp; grandsons: Dylan, Cayden, Conner, Logan, and Henry; identical twin brother, Donald Sayer (Marsha); sister, Sandy Yocum (Monte); his furry companions: Sadie the dog and Mr. Bailey the cat; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Darrell’s family will have private services at a later date in Pennsylvania.
