Darrell Gene Bailey, age 76, of Flag Pond passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his residence while he was surrounded by his family. He is a son of the late Homer and Hafford Allen Bailey. Darrell was born and raised in Erwin before moving to Asheboro, North Carolina where he lived for forty-one years. He moved to Flag Pond in 2013.
Darrell was a United States Navy Veteran, having served his country honorably. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Darrell retired from Knorr Foods where he worked as a mechanic for twenty-three years. He was of the Lutheran Faith.
Darrell liked drag racing and he enjoyed hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Bailey and one sister, Janice Peake.
Darrell leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty years, Judith “Judy” Sower Bailey; one son, Eddie Darrell Bailey; one daughter, Elizabeth Adams, all of Flag Pond; two grandchildren: Dakota Adams and Rhealyn Adams; two brothers: David Bailey (Patty) and Terry Bailey (Kathy), all of Erwin; two sisters: Nancy Chandler and Leisa Hampton (Tommy), all of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Darrell’s funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate. A private family committal will be held.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital Oncology and Hematology staff as well as Gentiva Hospice staff for all the wonderful care given to Darrell during his illness.
