Danny Duncan Sr.

Danny Duncan, Sr., age 66, Erwin, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol. He was a native of Greenville, SC but had lived in Erwin since 1985. Danny was a son of the late Melvin and Evelyn Whitmire Duncan. In his early years Danny spent his time racing on the dirt tracks in South Carolina. He was the owner and founder of Duncan Mechanical established in 1988. Danny was a Master Mason, with the Centennial Lodge #491 and member of Jericho Shriners. He was a special deputy with the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department for many years. Danny was also a proud supporter of Blue Devil athletics and other children's programs in Unicoi County. He was always eager to help anyone in need, especially when it came to kids, and never wanted to be publicized or recognized for his works. Danny was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He loved his grandchildren dearly, and he enjoyed hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marina McAbee. Danny leaves behind to cherish his memory, four children: Danny Duncan, Jr. (Carla), Christy Kelley (Steven), Greenville, SC, Shane Hawkins and Ryan Simmons both of Erwin; six grandchildren: Hunter, Halie, Madison, Devin, Colt, Hayden; one great granddaughter, Gracyn; one brother, Troy Duncan, Liberty, SC, two sisters: Teresa Godfrey (Donnie), Liberty, SC, and Wanda Craig (Wayne), Fountain Inn, SC; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Danny Miller.
