Daniel Joseph “Dan” Cooley, Jr., age 77, Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 07, 2023. He is a son of the late Daniel Joseph Cooley, Sr. and Faye Easter Cooley. Dan was born in Harriman, Tennessee and lived most of his life in Kingsport before moving to Unicoi in 2003.
He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Dan was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp – 2 Loops.
After completing twelve years of service with the Army, Dan earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Dan was a Certified Public Accountant with Free Service Tire until he retired. He was a devoted Christian. Dan was a member of the Johnson City Senior Center and The Musical Voices Group. He had a beautiful voice and he loved to sing. Dan enjoyed listening to classical music, working in the yard and feeding wildlife (especially birds).
Dan leaves behind to cherish his memory, his best friend and former wife, Nancy Nichols of Unicoi; two brothers: Mark Cooley and John Cooley.
His graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by Kingsport American Legion. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
