Clarence Floyd Bailey, age 83, of Erwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Monday, February 23, 2026, while he was surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and son of the late Floyd and Myma Ramsey Bailey.
Clarence retired from CSX Transportation after forty years of service. When Clarence retired from the railroad, he was the Superintendent. He was awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence by CSX. Clarence enjoyed working for the railroad where he also made many friends over the years.
He was an active member of Riverview Baptist Church for many years where he was currently serving as Chairman and Assistant Advisory Committee Moderator. Also, Clarence served as past Trustee and Chairman of the Board at Riverview Baptist Church. He also served on the Clinchfield Credit Union Board of Directors and Supervisory Board.
Clarence began singing gospel music at the age of nineteen. He was the bass singer with various gospel groups over many decades. Clarence loved singing praises to the Lord!
After Clarence retired from the railroad he enjoyed farming on his farm in Greene County. Clarence was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. He loved his family dearly.
Clarence leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years, Shirley Lewis Bailey; his son, Harlan Clarence Bailey; brother, Gary Wayne Bailey (Carolyn); several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Bailey family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 02, 2026, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Brown officiating and Adam Fann delivering the Eulogy. Music will be provided by Ronnie Webb, Larry Pate, and Rick Strickland. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Men of Riverview Baptist Church: Jeff Simmons, Kenny Howell, Allen Gray, Eric Wainwright, Jim Smith, and Ricky Smith will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Edwards and Ronnie Webb.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice Staff, and all the family and friends who have helped care for Clarence and his family during his illness.
